Colombo, Dec. 4 (Daily Mirror) - Two spill gates of the Kala Wewa have been opened by four feet each as of 9:00 a.m. today (04) in response to rising water levels, the Department of Irrigation said.
The Kala Wewa is currently releasing approximately 3,800 cubic feet per second through the gates. An additional release of around 1,000 cubic feet per second from the Rajanganaya Reservoir is expected at 1:45 p.m., bringing the total flow into the Kala Oya to about 4,800 cubic feet per second.
The Director of Irrigation (Water Management) said that this does not pose a flood risk and urged residents in low-lying areas to remain cautious while engaging in activities near the river.
