Judicial digitalisation project gets Cabinet nod

Colombo, Dec. 16 (Daily Mirror) - The Government has identified the digitalisation of Sri Lanka’s judicial system as a national priority, with the aim of improving efficiency, transparency and access to justice.

As the first phase of this transformation, the Supreme Court has already implemented a website and an electronic case management system (e-CMS) to manage its case files. Building on this initiative, the proposed e-Court Project seeks to expand the same digital platform across all courts islandwide, including the Court of Appeal, the Judicial Service Commission and the Institute of Judges.

The project also plans to establish a national judicial data network, which is expected to address long-standing challenges such as case delays, lack of data transparency and procedural inefficiencies within the judicial system.

In line with the International Monetary Fund’s Reform Agenda 2026–2030 Public Investment Programme and the Clean Sri Lanka Strategy, the Cabinet of Ministers has approved a proposal submitted by the Minister of Justice and National Integration to allocate Rs. 150 million for the project.

The funds will be provided to the Judicial Service Commission from allocations made under the Clean Sri Lanka Project to ensure the effective and efficient implementation of the e-Court Project.
