Colombo, January 8 (Daily Mirror) - A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed yesterday (7) at the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE), opening up job opportunities in Japan’s electrical engineering sector for qualified Sri Lankan youth.
The agreement was signed between Japan-based Enterprise United Co-operative and the Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Agency. Mr. Kazuhiro Hanzaki, Chairman of Enterprise United Co-operative, and Mr. Lal Hettiarachchi, Chairman of the Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Agency, signed the MoU on behalf of their respective organisations.
Under the agreement, Sri Lankan workers with National Vocational Qualifications (NVQ), aged 20 to 28, and who have completed their GCE Advanced Level studies, will be eligible for these positions. Japanese language proficiency is considered an added advantage, and the MoU also provides for the necessary vocational and language training. The Cabinet has approved the signing of this MoU.
Japanese language and vocational training will be conducted at the Sapugaskanda Vocational Training Centre under the National Youth Service Council (NYSC). The selection of qualified candidates will be carried out by the NYSC, Vocational Training Authority (VTA), NAITA, Technical Education and Training Authority (TETA), and the Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau, drawing from the Bureau’s registered job bank. All recruitments will be conducted by the Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Agency in line with the government programme.
