Colombo, March 22 (Daily Mirror)- The actions of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) and the LTTE were the main instrumental factors for the current economic crisis, former Minister S.M. Chandrasena said.
He told reporters that if the destruction of property and lives caused by the JVP and the LTTE was evaluated, it would be clear that their actions must have led to the crisis situation the country was facing today.
He said the JVP is now trying to show the country that they are good people by pointing fingers at others for the bankruptcy.

Although long term implications are there, the contributions of our politicians are not to be ignored. Also JVP and the LTTE are symptoms of wider issues. This is a correct statement but their actions were caused by JR and Premadasa governments. JVP was created for instigating troubles whenever foreign powers wanted to control Sri lanka. The damage caused by JVP and LTTE is much bigger than any amount allegedly stolen by Rajapakshas which has never been proven by anyone sofar. Rajapakshas were responsible for mismanagement however.

Hey Sena, The economic crisis started 75 years ago !!! Lankans only cultivating Paddy and it's not even enough for local consumption. The real economic debacle started when SL government started borrowing at an alarming rate. The Sovereign Bond issues put the final nail in the coffin. Just to give you an idea the sovereign bonds issued with 6.875% interest rate. just comparing LIBOR less than 3% and American bonds coupon rate also Less than 3% so the regional Pension Fund managers parked their fund money in government guaranteed high yielding (More than double the market rates) SL Sovereign Bonds. The end result, SL went bankrupt!! Sena, the government borrowed way way too much money then government didn't and couldn't payback THOSE DEBT.

Those who lent us on these Sovereign Bonds too should have assessed the ability of the GOSL to repay them back before buying them. It was a risk they took and now the GOSL can hold those payments.
