President Anura Kumara Dissanayake is resorting to political revenge by suggesting that former President Mahinda Rajapaksa should should pay the rent or leave his official residence in Wijerama Mawatha, MP Namal Rajapaksa said today.
MP Namal Rajapaksa told the media that Dissanayake was planning to take the residence from the former President and sell it.
He also pointed out that the residence is a privilege granted by the Constitution to executive presidents or former presidents for their safety.
"If Dissanayake wants to remove former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, he can make that request in writing. Granting a residence to former presidents is a practice in every country. Sri Lanka is not the only country where it is practiced," he said.
Rajapaksa added that instead of prioritizing the needs of the people, Dissanayake was more focused on political revenge and his mask was finally falling off, showing his true face.

Stop talking rubbish. AKD does not take revenge, Iike your dad did for S Fonseka outside the law of the country. Your father and whole family is a burden to the people. No sympathy for him any more, he robbed our country

The law tells to give a resident to ex-prez. But the same law does NOT tell to give an expensive house wasting TAX Payers money. When people finds difficult for a meal, you and your father are leading a LUXURY LIFE wasting tax Payers money. SHAME

Why don't you migrate to Uganda. Nobody want revenge but we want all the stolen money and the properties back. Period. What protection are you talking about .?? Your father is provided security guards at state expense , what more. Even that should be removed. That's what the people want.

Exactly Nihal, you are 100% correct. AKD is not like MR who took revenge on SF and kept him behind bars giving him the maximum suffering. AKD acts upon the Law and the Law is applicable to every citizen of SriLanka and MR is not a Superman to be considered as a King. He should reap the harvest and he must get out from this residence and try to live a simple life paying Rs. 30,000/= which is more than enough for this looter who ruined our country and brought a crisis.

May look as an act of revenge to the corrupt and selfish past regimes. For them, it’s acceptable. But for AKD and his team, they are trying to stop wastage, Malpractices, corruption etc in fastest manner and save as much now to pay for the outstanding loans and interest in the coming years.

It is not an act of revenge or any grudge but you and your family like many others have been jolly riding over the public money and except Sri ma or some others many politicians abused the system to live on public money? Think what did you do before coming to politics And what did father do ? Is it fair to live for ever in public fund Shame on anyone doing this ?

Asking you to pay rent for the house you occupy is not an act of revenge . Better you reenter the law school. . Besides your father has acquired many houses from the state . Including those given via Daisy Achchi. Don't try to fool the people again by telling it's revenge. No amount of revenge against your family will be a justification for the deeds you have done.

Everyone says is not good enough. It has to be proven beyond doubt. If proven guilty then that person should be punished. Just labelling their rivals as "HORA" doesn't cut it. Rulers should choose their words carefully. Sinicism and hatred can boomerang.

If it’s label as revenge,it’s not AKD’s but it’s feeling of masses, when MR stole Nilwala project money, letting people dying in floodi, it’s not revenge of only Matara people, when people dying on way side due no fuel to transport to hospitals or more people dying without medicines, people demanded revenge, when his jet flew in to take him to Thirupathi, people cursed and demand for revenge, in this guy’s wedding, when he didn’t pay electricity bill to the tune of 2.5 million, people demanded revenge, their curse is so heavy, so we leave him for god’s wrath

Namal, as you are not a real lawyer, what looks like an act of revenge to you is in fact what is known as `Justice` in law. You better put some effort to study at least a little law because you are now the leader of what is left of your family`s corrupt political party. Coming in as a national list MP is no excuse for such ignorance.

The audacity and impudence of this Namal cannot be surpassed!!! The Rajapaksa family, who have enriched themselves criminally for many years and own several hotels in the country, continue to demand free accommodation and lifelong support for Mahinda Rajapaksa! What must be wrong with the minds of such people if, in view of the high proportion of poor people in the country, they insist on their extreme egoism and make unscrupulous demands! Ultimately, the Rajapaksas are once again demonstrating their lack of character and unscrupulousness, which is their inner being!!! Conclusion: they have had a failed life!!!

This is after they robbed and cleaned the treasury of this country. This fool Namal cannot even comprehend that he sits in parliament as a non-elected seat BUT on an ‘allocated seat’. This is a sad fall for the thieving Rajapakse family- a response from those people who had to wait in queues for their basic day to day requirements.

Tale of two presidents. One unelected, old but experienced, transitional for 2 years and the other relatively young, properly elected with 2/3rds majority for the next 5 years. The former turned around a country from bankruptcy with the limited time available, made it functional again, ensured that the people would not go hungry. No shortage of food, 24hr electricity and uninterrupted supply of fuel, making sure the economy grows after correcting the past mistakes of others but more importantly not blaming anyone for them. The latter promised the moon but now struggling with shortages, stumbling on missteps every which way, blaming everyone but themselves for these mishaps. The contrast is pure chalk and cheese!

Now NPP government is on full face as per Mandate given to them by Majority Sri Lankans living in the country and around the world . Therefor all of those petty Politicians must stop talking about their individual comfort and leave state owned properties . Anura whilst this house belongs to the government why not give him time to reside there taking into consideration his leadership during the war and if the need arises the government can take it back as we do not know how long he will live as he is in a feeble condition. As the President you should be wise like a wolf and adopt strategies to ensure that emotions of the public will not culminate in your downfall as many politicians have fallen from the grace of the public due to small sensitive issues although much can be done to the public as they forget the past very quickly and the momentum that is created is what matters so ensure pitfalls are avoided when you are riding high!!!!!!!

The problem is most Sri Lankans have this expectation for everything to be provided for free. Let it be education, healthcare, housing, vehicles, etc. Not only is this not feasible, but as a result there are no funds to develop educational institutes, hospitals, transport systems etc. Only the low-income citizens should be given free access to these benefits. Everyone else should pull their own weight or be subsidized (tiered structure) according to their income and assets.
