Colombo, Dec. 9 (Daily Mirror)- An islandwide power failure has occured due to a systems failure in the main supply line, a senior Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) official said.
He said the CEB is investigating into the the incident and measures are underway to restore power as soon as possible.

CEB will gt everything fixed and not wait unitl 2048. However the repair costs will now justify a another electricity hike, taxes, VAT, surcharges, etc.

Did the minister under your purview for Electricity not watch fireworks, whilst this whole island paradise was blacked out? Not only Electricity board systems. All the ministries and departments including President's secretariat are completely paralysed and utter failure systems . That's why the people were staged the Aragalaya to change the whole system. Got it !

I agree with people who claim the islandwide power failure was an act of "sabotage". These highly unionised, unprofitable and cash-draining public enterprises must be privatised. Imagine a government led by "Malimawa" governing this country with no alternative economic solution. They still have outdated and antiquated ideologies. People, please think!

What a shame, where is the redundancy, dual or triple feeds giving geographical separation in the event of one supply line fail. Lot of qualified engineers, Chartered Engineers, Fellows of IESL, have they not designed not to have a single point of failure. Before making CEB profitable, make sure the network is designed in such a way to recover automatically switching feeds.
