April 23 (Daily Mirror) - Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi said during a telephone conversation with Sri Lanka’s Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath that Iran will take all legal and political means to hold the perpetrators and those responsible accountable and bring them to justice over the attack on the IRIS Dena off the coast of Sri Lanka.
During the call, Dr. Araghchi expressed appreciation for the Sri Lankan government’s efforts in the rescue operation for the sailors of the IRIS Dena and for assisting in the transfer of the bodies of the crew members, along with other Iranian naval personnel, back to their homeland, according to a statement from the Embassy of Iran in Sri Lanka.
The Iranian Foreign Minister, while outlining what he described as crimes committed by the United States and Israel against Iran, characterised the attack on the IRIS Dena as an “unprecedented war crime” by the United States and stressed that the Iranian nation will never forget this crime. He said the incident constitutes a grave violation of the fundamental rules of international humanitarian law, including the 1949 Geneva Conventions.
The Foreign Ministers of Iran and Sri Lanka also exchanged views on strengthening bilateral relations during the call.
