Inmates involved in unrest at Boossa Prison to be transferred

Jan 17 (Daily Mirror) - The Department of Prisons said that inmates who caused unrest at the Boossa High-Security Prison will be transferred to other prison facilities.

A group of inmates climbed onto the roof of Section D of the prison last evening and staged a protest against the prison administration. During the incident, several items of prison property were damaged.

The situation was brought under control following the timely intervention of prison officers, with assistance from the police.

Prisons Media Spokesperson A. C. Gajanayake said that the inmates involved can no longer be accommodated at the Boossa High-Security Prison, and arrangements have therefore been made to transfer and relocate them to other prisons.

He said that an assessment of the damage to prison property will be carried out today. The Department of Prisons has also launched a special investigation into the incident.
