Impressive boost in remittances from Sri Lankan foreign workers

A total of USD 541 million in foreign exchange was sent to Sri Lanka boosting the remittances from Sri Lankan foreign workers, Labour and Foreign Employment Minister Manusha Nanayakkara said.

Receipts of foreign remittances have increased by 78% since last year. The cumulative remittances by Sri Lanka's global workforce reached USD 3363.6 million. (Chaturanga Pradeep Samarawickrama)

Mr Minister What are you doing to make life easier for those who earn $$$ and remit to keep Sri Lanka afloat? Why not allow them to bring back the motor cars they have owned during their employment overseas for over 02 years at least? No foreign exchange involved to import and customs duty will be revenue for the Government.

This was allowed before and due to 'Malpractices' relating to Proof of 'Ownership for 2 or 3 years' prior to import and 'Age of Vehicle', which resulted in this practice being rescinded (1977), using USD payment by 'ILLEGAL Means' (foreign exchange retained Overseas) from exports (Under-Invoicing) and Imports (Over-Invoicing)!!!??? Not as contractual Earning or Wages!!!???

It is the money sent by expats visiting Sri Lanka for their expenses.. I know many people sent to their account or relatives account and then used the money when they are in Sri Lanka..
