Immigration Department restores services after system glitch

Colombo, Feb. 13 (Daily Mirror) - The technical fault in its computer system has been fully rectified, and all services have now resumed as normal, the  Immigration and Emigration Department announced.

Deputy Controller and Media Spokesperson Mahesh Karunadasa said departmental operations, which were temporarily suspended due to the system failure, have been restored.

Accordingly, the issuance of air permits has recommenced, while services related to passports, one-day passports, and visas are now being carried out as usual. He added that the issuance of urgent and essential travel documents has also been completed.

Mr. Karunadasa further said that the branch network of the department is currently operating without disruptions.

On February 12, services of the Department of Immigration and Emigration were interrupted due to a sudden glitch in its computer data system, affecting all regional offices. As a result, the public was requested to postpone non-urgent visits for passport services until the following week.

The Media Spokesperson said a special technical committee was immediately appointed to address the issue and restore the system, confirming that the department is now functioning normally.
