IRD reminds taxpayers of upcoming deadlines for 2024/2025 assessment year

Colombo, Nov. 11 (Daily Mirror) - The Inland Revenue Department (IRD) has issued a reminder to taxpayers regarding the upcoming deadlines for income tax returns and related tax payments for the 2024/2025 assessment year.

Taxpayers are required to submit their income tax returns online by November 30, 2025. The IRD emphasized that all returns should be filed following the official guidelines, available under the Downloads and Returns section at www.ird.gov.lk.

Additionally, certain tax payments, including the second quarterly installment for Corporate Income Tax (CIT), Individual Income Tax (IIT), Partnership Income Tax (PIT), and other withholding taxes, must be made on or before November 15, 2025.

The IRD pointed out that all individual taxpayers must have a Personal Identification Number (PIN) to file returns, while companies and partnerships should secure both a PIN and SSID. Taxpayers without a PIN can obtain one through e-Services on the IRD website or at any regional office.

Tax payments can be made via the Online Tax Payment Platform (OTPP) or at branches of the Bank of Ceylon and Peoples’ Bank, depending on the type of tax. User guides and instructions for OTPP are available on the official IRD website.

The department warned that penalties will apply for late submissions or incorrect returns. Taxpayers requiring assistance can contact the IRD helpline at 1944.

The IRD urged all taxpayers to comply with these deadlines to avoid penalties and support responsible tax practices for the nation’s development.
