IMF Extended Fund Facility expected in March: Prez

President Ranil Wickremesinghe said the IMF Extended Fund Facility is expected in March, President's Media Division (PMD) said.

He added that the reduction of bank interest rates is being considered in relation to the gradual decline of inflation.

The President made this statement during a discussion with Small and Medium Scale Rice Mill Owners.

The president is the biggest impediment towards the IMF loan being passed. In March he will say it's expected in May and so on...the big con continues.

China wants fair treatment to it, by having same 'hair cut' put on all creditors including multilateral donors/banks. The US led group are against that, they want China to get extra burden of haircut but their shareholder multilateral banks and pension funds to get zero cuts. When now US backed creditors refuse to take haircut, but China wants them to how does Ranil expect things to work out?

IMF Extended Fund Facility? Isn't this another loan where you pay interest and an apportionment of the capital that gets added to the debt mountain? Ranil talks as if this is a God sent gift. So far Ranil hasn't a clue how to get over the crisis. His endless long speeches are meaningless are mere hot air.

Loans after loans, bailout after bailout and we are heading left of 75 years, since the Brits left. Look at where we have managed to come thus far and turn this into a right royal cesspit. Our debt keeps mounting up, is unsustainable and most definitely not payable. Our country is laden with debt, from the villager who takes loans to field his crop, to the trishaw driver who pays off on a lease, to the common Joe who builds his house, to the affluent who buy expensive cars and extras to boot; we aren’t going anywhere. As a country we have to cut down spending, live well below our means, stamp out robbing/corruption and completely eliminate wastage. Would this ever happen? Of course not. The Japanese did it after the war, Vietnam moved on, Rwanda is well on its way and Singapore came out of just being a fisheries trading port. It’s the people who make that change possible. Our fellows are experts in pomp and pageantry. Well done and here’s to another 75 years of independence.
