ID office warns of financial fraud using its name

Colombo, April 24 (Daily Mirror) - The Department for Registration of Person (ID Office) warned that a certain party is misappropriating the name of the Department to obtain personal information and commit financial fraud.

The Department said that it is reported that they obtain the details through telephone numbers such as +94115226126, +0115226126 and mobile numbers 0771167739 and 0742756098 using the Department’s hotline 115226126.

Information has been received that this party has created a mobile application (APP) using the national emblem and register people's information claiming for a Digital Identity Card or an Electronic National Identity Card, misusing the Department's name.

The Department said it does not conduct any such registrations and warned people not to provide personal details to calls received through mobile phones.

The Department also warned people to refrain from providing any details to calls received from a number similar to the Department's hotline, requesting for details using a fraudulent website https://drpgov-lk.com similar to the official Department website.

The Department emphasised that it has not yet commenced any registration for an e-NIC or a Digital Identity Card.
