Colombo, April 9 (Daily Mirror) - Heat conditions in the country are likely to intensify in the months following June, Additional Director General of the Department of Meteorology, Ajith Wijemanne said.
Speaking to the media, he said that temperatures could rise further if an El Niño situation develops during the Southwest monsoon period.
He added that the country is currently experiencing an El Niño neutral condition. The inter-monsoon period is expected to end by May 15, while the Southwest monsoon is likely to commence after May 20, bringing some relief from prevailing heat conditions.
Accordingly, the discomfort caused by high temperatures is expected to ease after the third week of May, although conditions may worsen again in the months that follow.
