Colombo, Nov. 18 (Daily Mirror) - The Health Entomology Officers Association has issued a warning about the ongoing spread of Chikungunya in the Matara area, which has affected both health workers and the general public over the past several months.
The disease is transmitted by the mosquito species Aedes albopictus, which bites primarily during the day. The Chikungunya virus, carried by these mosquitoes, can cause high fever, joint pain, and other health complications.
Health officials highlighted the importance of controlling mosquito populations by eliminating stagnant water sources where mosquitoes breed, including rain gutters, water tanks, water collection containers, plastic, polythene, glass, tin cans, and similar items.
Residents experiencing fever lasting more than a day are advised to consult a qualified doctor promptly for proper diagnosis and treatment. Authorities urged the public to take preventive measures seriously to curb the spread of the disease.
