Colombo, Dec 31 (Daily Mirror) -Approximately 600 complaints are lodged annually, involving health staff, including doctors, Health Minister Ramesh Pathirana revealed.
He made these remarks at a ceremony held at Peradeniya Teaching Hospital recently.
The Health Minister addressed concerns over the consistent influx of complaints related to medical negligence in the health sector.
Expressing his concern, the minister highlighted that this year's complaint figures mirrored those of the previous year, raising questions about the sector's commitment to patient welfare.
During the ceremony, he underscored the pivotal role played by hospital staff, particularly doctors, in delivering quality healthcare.
However, Minister Pathirana pointed out that a thorough analysis of patient complaints had uncovered numerous mistakes, emphasizing the urgent need for heightened dedication from health sector professionals.
As the health sector grapples with challenges, Minister Pathirana urged staff to prioritize service to the people and reassess their commitment to ensuring patient well-being.

The priority of GMOA to change their recent attitudes and culture of being in Tradeunionism. Their Exco officers are appearing on media talks, or on street or on strike bringing patients lots of misery, inconvenience etc. This mainly caused downfall of medical standards / quality . So GMOA it's upto you to bring back your professional integrity of yours as in past before the Padeniya hooliganism.

What’s happening about the juggleries that have taken place with inferior medicine ordered and accepted, deleting of important records also ordering or medicines, lack or medicine in certain hospitals island wide…….???. Any dead back regarding your qualified set of scientists and solid team during Covid period who PROVED CREMATION WAS REQUIRED for those who passed away due to even better than all other international bodies who never learnt or even understood of. Human error happens in every profession .A doctor is not a divine person but just another living being who makes mistakes occassionally. Deliberate misconduct by doctors is a rare occurrence. Politicians who fail most of the time are quick to judge others.

I think this will increase in future as the out flux of the medical professionals due to economic woes (specially taxes) will put strain on existing medical professionals. Now less number of doctors attending to more patients, obviously will lead to more unintentional mistakes.
