Colombo, Nov. 5 (Daily Mirror) - The World Food Programme (WFP) Country Representative Philip Ward and Government Partnership Officer Mustafa Nihmath met Health and Mass Media Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa at the Ministry of Health on Monday (4).
The meeting focused on the WFP Strategic Plan 2023–2027 and future cooperation with the government to strengthen food and nutrition security in Sri Lanka.
Discussions highlighted the WFP’s ongoing support to improve nutrition among mothers and children, reduce malnutrition, and promote a healthy population through better access to nutritious food. They also explored ways to create proper markets for locally produced food.
Minister Jayatissa thanked Mr. Ward for leading WFP’s efforts in Sri Lanka to support food security, nutrition, and community resilience against climate and economic challenges.
He also appreciated WFP’s role in rebuilding food systems and ensuring nutrition for all as Sri Lanka continues to recover from the economic crisis.
WFP, which has operated in Sri Lanka since 1968, continues to assist national efforts to improve nutrition and resilience. Mr. Ward expressed gratitude to the government and the minister for their continued support and cooperation.
