Govt. targets ’productivity villages’ nationwide by 2030



Colombo, Nov. 16 (Daily Mirror) - Sri Lanka aims to transform every village in the country into a “productivity village” by 2030, Industry and Entrepreneurship Development Ministry Secretary Ms. Thilaka Jayasundara, said.

She made the remarks while delivering a keynote address at the National Productivity Summit held in Colombo on Friday (14), organized by the National Productivity Secretariat with support from the Asian Productivity Organization’s Vision 2025 program.

The summit showcased the results of multiple productivity enhancement initiatives carried out from October 2022 to November 2025. These programs focused on promoting innovation-driven productivity, developing eco-tourism destinations, improving public sector processes, and encouraging productivity awareness among youth.

Ms. Jayasundara highlighted that the public sector has a critical role in achieving the government’s vision of establishing productivity-driven villages across all regional divisions. She noted that productivity is a key indicator of a nation’s economic, social, and cultural advancement.

The event saw the participation of a large number of stakeholders, including National Productivity Secretariat Director Niranja Jayakody, District and Divisional Secretaries, officials from the Ministries of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development and Education, government officers, entrepreneurs, and school students.
