Govt.’s treatment of Mahinda would please Prabhakaran: Spokesman

Colombo, Sept. 11 (Daily Mirror) - If LTTE leader Velupillai Prabhakaran were alive today, he would be pleased with the way this government has treated Mahinda Rajapaksa, Attorney-at-Law and spokesperson for the former President, Manoj Gamage, said.

He claimed that forcing Mahinda Rajapaksa to vacate his official residence in Colombo today marked a significant day for the current government, as it appeared to fulfill promises made to the LTTE diaspora rather than the pledges given to the people during the election campaign.

“At a time when the country is facing far more pressing issues, the government chose to threaten the former President and compel him to leave his official residence,” Gamage said.

However, in accordance with the new rules and guidelines introduced by the government, the former President decided to vacate his residence less than 24 hours after the announcement.

Although he has left the premises, the belongings inside the house will be officially handed over after a week.

“Forcing Mahinda Rajapaksa to leave his official residence clearly shows the people how the current government is mistreating the leader who safeguarded the country by ending a 30-year civil war,” Gamage added.

Even members of the National People’s Power (NPP) have contacted us regarding the way the government is treating the former President.
