Govt came to power on ‘endless lies’, failed to deliver promised system change: Namal

Colombo, July 21 (Daily Mirror) - Opposition MP Namal Rajapaksa alleged that the National People's Power (NPP) government came to power through "endless lies" and has abandoned its pledge to introduce a new political culture.

Addressing a public gathering, Rajapaksa said the government had failed to fulfil the expectations of the people who voted for change and had instead adopted what he described as outdated political practices.

"People from all political parties are here today. There are those who voted for us, those who did not, and even those who were disappointed. That reflects the distrust people have developed towards the government they elected," he said.

Rajapaksa claimed that the political force represented by former President Mahinda Rajapaksa had contributed the most to the country's political landscape and remained a significant force despite criticism.

He accused the government of misleading the younger generation by promising to "change the system" but instead continuing with traditional political practices after assuming office.

"The JVP was brought to power to create a new political culture. However, from the day they came to power, they followed the same outdated political agenda," he said.

Rajapaksa also defended the tax policies of the previous administration, saying taxes had been reduced to ease the burden on the public and lower production costs.
