Govt. boosts support for science and technology to build sustainable future



Colombo, Nov. 6 (Daily Mirror) - Science and technology are vital forces shaping Sri Lanka’s sustainable future, noting that the government is taking significant steps to enhance support for these sectors, Science and Technology, Professor Chrishantha Abeysena Minister said.

He made these remarks while serving as Chief Guest at the Awards for Science Popularization 2025, held recently at the Medicine, University Faculty of Colombo. The event, organized by the National Science Foundation (NSF) under the Science and Technology Ministry, was themed “Nature-Inspired Technology for Sustainable Development” and coincided with World Science Day on November 10.

Professor Abeysena highlighted the government’s commitment to science and technology as a national priority, stating that increased financial allocations and support aim to foster scientific literacy and ensure knowledge reaches all corners of society.

He highlighted the importance of nurturing knowledge, creativity, and practical skills from a young age, noting that schoolchildren are the foundation of future innovations. “Programs that promote science among school children are the first step in inspiring curiosity and new discoveries within them,” he said.

The event recognized individuals and initiatives that have contributed to popularizing science and promoting innovation across Sri Lanka.
