A government MP heavily criticised the Constitutional Council alleging that it has failed to enforce the recently passed Anti-Corruption Act even after the extraordinary gazette notification was issued by the Justice Ministry declaring that the Act will come into effect from September 15, 2023.
MP Mahindananda Aluthgamage told Parliament that the Constitutional Council headed by the Speaker is the most inefficient body in Parliament and said the President should dissolve it and appoint new members if it fails to take action to enforce the Anti-Corruption Act soon and appoint members to the Bribery Commission.
He said the CC consists of the Prime Minister and the Opposition Leader and added that it was not the houses of the MPs that should be surrounded by the people but houses of the CC members.(Ajith Siriwardana and Yohan Perera)
