Colombo, Dec. 5 (Daily Mirror) - The Opposition today alleged that the government is using the emergency regulations to suppress social media instead of using them for the benefit of the affected people.

Samagi Jana Balawegaya MP Kabir Hashim told Parliament that Deputy Minister Sunil Watagala had instructed the police to arrest social media activists, claiming that they are carrying out defamatory social media campaigns targeting the President and the government.

"Social media activists are working hard on the ground for the affected people. The government is trying to suppress these social media activists. This is state terrorism. Was the emergency regulations invoked to ease your pain or the affected peoples' pain," he asked.
