Government online services disrupted due to Lanka Government Cloud outage

Colombo, Oct. 13 (Daily Mirror) - Several online public services operated by government institutions have been temporarily disrupted following a technical issue affecting the Lanka Government Cloud (LGC).

The affected systems include the Birth, Marriage, and Death (BMD) Certificate System of the Registrar General’s Department, the e-Revenue License System (eRL 2.0) used by Provincial Departments of Motor Traffic (excluding the Western Province), the Police Clearance System of the Department of Police, and the Country of Origin Certificate Issuance System of the Department of Commerce. Additionally, several government websites—such as those of the Department of Meteorology, Registrar of Companies, and the Sri Lanka Accounting and Auditing Standards Board—have also been impacted.

Engineers from the Information and Communication Technology Agency (ICTA) and the relevant service provider are working to restore the cloud systems as soon as possible. Meanwhile, the Registrar General’s Department has informed the public that certificate copies can be obtained manually from the respective Divisional Secretariats where the original certificates were issued.

ICTA said that all relevant institutions, including the Department of Police, have been kept informed of the ongoing restoration efforts. The agency emphasized that the restoration of LGC services remains a top priority, and noted that the ongoing next phase of the LGC expansion project, which began in October 2025, is expected to address existing capacity and operational limitations.

The ICTA expressed regret for the inconvenience caused to the public and the institutions hosted on the LGC, assuring that every effort is being made to restore full online functionality at the earliest possible time.
