Global Sri Lankan Forum urges President to intervene over Suresh Sallay’s health and legal rights

Colombo, June 22 (Daily Mirror) - The Global Sri Lankan Forum (GSLF) has called on the President to urgently intervene on humanitarian grounds regarding the rapidly deteriorating health condition of the former Director of the State Intelligence Service (SIS), Major General (Retired) Suresh Sallay.

In a letter addressed to the President, the forum requested that investigations into Major General Sallay be expedited through a transparent judicial process, rather than holding him in prolonged administrative detention. The GSLF emphasized the need for immediate attention to his current custody conditions and worsening physical well-being.

Highlighting his service to the nation, the Global Sri Lankan Forum pointed out that as a high-ranking military officer, Major General Sallay has dedicated decades of his life to safeguarding Sri Lanka’s sovereignty and national security.

The organization maintained that no individual should be subjected to long-term detention without being served a formal indictment.

The forum further said that Major General Sallay is currently being held under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA). The letter warned that should any unfortunate event or complication happen to him during his custody, the responsibility for such an outcome would inevitably fall upon the President’s office as the authority that issued the detention order.

The Global Sri Lankan Forum strongly urged the President to ensure that Major General Sallay receives unimpeded access to the highest level of medical care and that stringent measures are taken to guarantee his personal safety.
