Gem trader found dead in mine pit in Kahawatta

Colombo, March 31 (Daily Mirror) - The body of a 61-year-old gem trader who had gone missing in the Kahawatta area has been discovered inside a mine pit in Neelagama.

The victim, a father of two and a resident of Kattange, Kahawatta, was reported missing after he mysteriously disappeared while travelling along the Kahawatta–Neelagama road.

Preliminary investigations revealed that he had been riding a motorcycle on the afternoon of Saturday (28). His motorcycle was later found parked near a bend along the same road.

Police also recovered his mobile phone on Sunday (29) from a nearby tea estate.

Further investigations are underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the death.
