Geethanath Cassilingam accuses govt. of failing to honour promises to North, East

The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) Jaffna District organiser Geethanath Cassilingam today criticized the government for failing to deliver on key promises made to the people of the North and East during last year’s election campaign.

Speaking at the meeting in Nugegoda, he said the National People’s Power (NPP) government had not fulfilled a single commitment it made to Tamil-speaking communities, despite winning a strong mandate in those areas.

“One year has passed, yet none of those promises have been honoured. The NPP won a resounding victory in the North and East, but the commitments given to minorities remain unkept. How much longer does the government plan to mislead these communities?” he asked.

Kassilingam claimed President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, during discussions with the ITAK ahead of the election, pledged full implementation of the 13th Amendment, the release of former LTTE prisoners and reforms to the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA).

“Our party’s position on these issues has not changed — but the government must respect the people’s mandate. The promises made to the North and East cannot be ignored any longer,” he said.

Well, you are one of the very few people from the North that say the government has not kept it's promises. The majority has and still does hail the government for the promises fulfilled so far!! Stop yelling inanities!!!

The government promised to upgrade Palaly airport to international standard, redevelop KKS harbour, Restart KKS cement factory, Reestablish Paranthan chemicals, Develop OTTISUDDAN TILE factory, expand Valaichenai paper factory. Not one dig has taken place.Thus the comments by Casilingam are not inanities. They are very factual

The government must be giev some time to work out things. Things which were not solved for somany years by previous regimes cannot be changed over night. Every one is making their demands.

13....unlucky number. To be avoided. For todays and future conditions.....13th amendment cannot be implemented. Some elements may be done for minorities well being but full implementation economically negative for the hon. Govt.This is perfectly normal.

There is no north east! There is no carved out state occupying two thirds of our coastline. This is north and east of Sri Lanka
