GMOA to launch token strike tomorrow

The Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA) today condemned the arrest of students who were protesting against the SAITM and said they would launch a 4-hour token strike starting from 8 a.m. tomorrow.

Issuing a statement, the trade union said an urgent executive committee meeting was summoned this evening to discuss the arrest of protesting students which included medical undergraduates.

"The Committee decided to launch a token strike tomorrow from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. We urge the authorities to release all medical students who are in custody," it said.

If the students were not released, strong trade union action would be taken, the union warned.

Strike should be banned and if they continue with the strike their day's pay should be cut from their salary and strong disciplinary and legal action should be taken by the Government. The biggest problem is the government is very linient with the GMOA and thus never-ending demands and strikes by this union. In no country in the world doctors strike like in Sri Lanka. Shame Shame Shame on the noble profession.

This is the mentality of people who get into Sri Lanka state universities with the Z score advantage. The government needs to expedite the opening of private universities which will also reduce the burden on the economy and create a better set of professionals.

The Govt. is worried about the repercussions of attacking the GMOA because these idiot doctors and the JO and Raja's gang are just waiting for a chance to say "they are killing us" etc.etc. So, don't kill them, just arrest all of them and get doctors retired or even from abroad to fill in. Once and for all be firm or you will not have a Govt. to run. People are getting really frustrated with these strikes now.
