Harin Fernando Monday, 01 January 2024 07:32 AM

How can kerosene reduced when VAT is imposed. It should be VAT imposition and heavy global price reduction.

    Dee Monday, 01 January 2024 11:55 AM

Saradiel theory of economics. Rob from the haves and give the have nots!

    Citizen Monday, 01 January 2024 01:33 PM

This is the message from politicians their achievements for the year, they want the people to go back to kerosene era, Ranil and MR have proved year after year they are unable to run a country, still public voting for them blindly. Do u all want another 5 years to go through this? This time NPP otherwise next year will not have even kerosene.

    SLEx Monday, 01 January 2024 11:19 PM

This is because the poor people utilise kerosene more than petrol/diesel for their daily needs. It is more like a targeted subsidy.

    Cherath Monday, 01 January 2024 07:54 AM

92 Octane going from 346 to 366 is an INCREASE. Also, how can Kerosene price be reduced as a result of introduction of VAT?

    Ahhhhh Monday, 01 January 2024 08:28 AM

Tharanga Lakmal Monday, 01 January 2024 08:40 AM

Minister dampens New Year Monday, 01 January 2024 09:00 AM

CPC and the minister has found a novel way to throw a wet cloth on New Year celebration in 2024. Is this the Minister's sadist mood or sheer necessity?

    lion Monday, 01 January 2024 10:00 AM

Hope this year will be a very unique new year for Srilanka. The expectation of the common man which constitute nearly 80 person of the population, be it Sinhalese ,Tamil ,Muslim burger and Malay , the common expectation of all of them is for the birth of a government who truly works for the upliftment of the country with the law applying every one equally.

    Chanaka Monday, 01 January 2024 01:54 PM

Can the Lion tell us how this idea will be actually achieved ? If it is through subsidies and cross subsidies we don't want anything of it, as it will lead us to the same mess we are so painfully trying to get out of.

2024 a year of greater abuse by government Monday, 01 January 2024 10:42 AM

Every year is a year of abuse by successive Lankan governments. 2024 brings about greater than usual.

    Sunakha Monday, 01 January 2024 10:48 AM

Man.... we will also have to resort to robbing to live

meel Ahmed Monday, 01 January 2024 12:54 PM

Ranil Rajak and Pohttuwa cabinet members are the most happiest and enjoyable group on Srilanka. Rail Rajapaksha and group take revenge from the people. It's time CHASE those Useless .......

    Peter Monday, 01 January 2024 10:50 AM

Even if I am imprisoned, I will not pay income tax hereafter

    Janaka Monday, 01 January 2024 01:50 PM

Well you surely deserve to be imprisoned. With the mentality the question is have you been paying your taxes correctly thus far?

    Pusa Monday, 01 January 2024 12:11 PM

Glad the price of Jet fuel (Kerosene) has been decreased so Sri Lankans can go abroad, earn money and send it back and have the political clowns take a cut!…mark my words: “Edha Aragalaya, Heta Viplawaya”

    Rajitha Monday, 01 January 2024 04:46 PM

Another Sahodaraya 'Bot' at work on new year's day. Any affiliation to the IUSF, FSP, or NPP?

Pantha Kumran Monday, 01 January 2024 02:42 PM

Happy New Year to all our readers. Today we are in this situation thanks to every one who ruled our country since 2005. They all together robbed our wealth. I wish all of them a Happy and prosperous new year.

    Anjsri12 Monday, 01 January 2024 02:57 PM

Patriotic comments on the go My foot. Is it only a political personal agenda just to oppose for sake of any thing. Petrol 92 in 01st October was 365, in 01st December 346 and now 366. Crying foul haha. Diesel 356 in 01st November, in 01st December 329 and now 358. Crying foul for no reason. Hue and shouts were made that prices due to VAT will go upwards by over 60 on petrol and diesel but actually happened by 20. This is the mentality of opposing. Those who Crying for change with Viplavaya expectations will end up in long queues. Let them enjoy that poverty. God bless.

Sicky pooo Monday, 01 January 2024 05:56 PM

That's it. I am going to drink some poison and jump in Nilwala river.

    Peter Monday, 01 January 2024 06:22 PM

@Janaka -"Well you surely deserve to be imprisoned. With the mentality the question is have you been paying your taxes correctly thus far?" - Yes, presumably more than you in a 36% bracket as an individual.

Tissa Fernando Monday, 01 January 2024 07:56 PM

Ranil has to fill the coffers so his clan and Rajas can get rich in 2024.

    SLEx Monday, 01 January 2024 11:25 PM

If you pay tax in the 36% bracket, why are you crying about fuel prices? Driving a V8 or a uneconomical vehicle is the only reason I can think of. Maybe try switching off the AC and opening the windows if you cannot afford these fuel prices while on the highest tax bracket. Or live in a smaller house to reduce utility expenses. Cook at home 3-4 dishes without eating out.

    SLEx Monday, 01 January 2024 11:27 PM

With NPP we will not have a country. Just another line of fuel queues and hungry citizens since they think our country can afford to give subsidies on everything.
