Colombo, Jan. 21 (Daily Mirror) - Heavy rains combined with early morning frost have severely affected vegetable and tea cultivation in the Nuwara Eliya region, estate superintendents and local farmers report.
Tea plantations have suffered significant damage, with frost causing leaves to dry up and reducing overall tea yield, according to estate managers. Meanwhile, vegetable farmers are taking measures to wash off frost from their crops before sunset to prevent burning and further loss.
The Meteorology Department recorded a temperature drop to 7.4 °C in the early hours of January 21, contributing to the frost conditions affecting the highland agricultural areas.
Authorities have urged farmers to remain vigilant and adopt protective measures as unpredictable weather continues to impact the region.
