Fr. Jeewantha Peiris surrenders to Court over another case

Rev. Fr. Jeewantha Peiris who became an active participant in the “GotaGoGama” protest was today released on bail after being surrendered before Colombo Fort Magistrate's Court in connection with the third case filed against him.

Fr. Jeewantha Peiris was ordered to be released on a surety bail of Rs.500,000 by Magistrate Thilina Gamage in connection with a case filed by Divisional Crimes Detective Bureau of Modara Polic.

Police alleged that Fr. Jeewantha Peiris had forcibly entered the Presidential Secretariat and participated in a press conference.  

The Fort Police and Slave Island Police had also filed two separate B reports against Fr. Jeewantha Peiris over two separate incidents relating to the Galle Face protests.

Fr. Jeewantha Peiris has also filed a Fundamental Rights petition in the Supreme Court seeking an order preventing police and tri-forces from arresting him regarding Galle Face protest incidents.
