Colombo, Dec. 16 (Daily Mirror) - Former Minister C. B. Rathnayake, who was in remand following his arrest by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC), has been granted bail by the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court.

The court ordered Rathnayake’s release on two surety bonds of Rs. 2 million each and imposed a ban on overseas travel.

I do not understand what is wrong with this government. They create unnecessary drama by arresting former politicians, keeping them in custody for a short period, and then releasing them on bail. If there are proven instances of wrongdoing, the authorities should promptly file charges, conduct the trial without delay, and deliver judgments strictly in accordance with the law. Justice should not be manipulated to please voters or used as a tool for political theatrics. When arrests are made without swift and transparent legal follow-up, the entire process risks becoming a public spectacle rather than a credible system of governance. A responsible government must allow the rule of law to function independently, decisively, and with dignity.

Even for moment I don’t think the government is involved in the process, its law enforcement authority including bribery commission should take action against these people in a manner which don’t affects the confidence people are having in the judiciary.
