Former High Commissioner Kananathan has conveyed his sincere congratulations to President Alassane Ouattara of Côte d’Ivoire and President Dr Hussein Ali Mwinyi of Zanzibar following their recent election victories, both securing strong mandates from their citizens.

He noted that President Ouattara’s resounding fourth-term victory demonstrates the continued trust the Ivorian people place in his leadership and development agenda. He likewise acknowledged President Mwinyi’s clear win in Zanzibar, recognizing the confidence shown in his governance.

“I warmly congratulate both President Ouattara and President Mwinyi, and I wish them continued success as they lead their nations forward,” Kananathan said.

Tanzania's corrupt CCM party has ruled since independence in 1961 and this election left 500-700 dead in clashes. Zanzibar is part of Tanzania. In October 2025 the government of Cote d'Ivoire issued a ban on public meetings and demonstrations that sought to contest the exclusion of key opposition figures from the election. Kananathan an admirer of MR naturally supports these corrupt regimes.
