Kandy, November 18 (Daily Mirror) - Soon after the arrest of a 23-year-old man for exposing himself and attempting to sexually harass a female New Zealand tourist in Thirukkovil, another incident involving the harassment of a foreign woman has been reported in Kandy.
The Kandy Tourist Police arrested a 32-year-old man who allegedly sexually harassed a foreign woman while driving a three-wheeler alongside her in the Paragahadeniya area, under the jurisdiction of Mawathagama Police.
Police investigations, aided by CCTV footage, revealed that the suspect had reached the Katugastota area and had been in hiding since the afternoon of November 16, delaying his apprehension. The suspect surrendered to the Kandy Tourist Police on November 17. Both he and the three-wheeler involved have been handed over to Mawathagama Police for further legal action.
The operation was conducted under the supervision of Assistant Superintendent of Police Prabath Vidanagama, Director of the Tourist Police Division, with the participation of Chief Inspector Lalith Mahagedara (OIC, Kandy Tourist Police), Sub-Inspector Dissanayake, Sergeant Indrajith (47018), Police Officer Udayakumara (77459), and other officers of the Tourist Division.
