Flexible work shifts approved for public servants during Ramadan

Colombo, January. 10 (Daily Mirror) - The Ministry of Public Administration, Home Affairs, Provincial Councils and Local Government has directed all state institutions to introduce flexible work shifts for Muslim public servants to facilitate the observance of religious practices during the holy month of Ramadan.

The directive has been issued through a circular addressed to Ministry Secretaries, Provincial Chief Secretaries, Heads of Departments, as well as Heads of State Corporations and Statutory Boards.

According to the circular, the Ramadan season this year is scheduled to fall from February 19 to March 21, and institutions have been instructed to arrange duty rosters accordingly to enable Muslim employees to perform their religious rites.

The Ministry has further emphasized that special leave should be approved only in unavoidable circumstances, urging institutions to manage requirements primarily through adjusted work schedules.
