Colombo, January 11 (Daily Mirror) - The first Bailey Bridge constructed under India’s Assistance Package for post-Cyclone Ditwah reconstruction was opened to traffic on Sunday, restoring a crucial road connection between Sri Lanka’s Central and Uva provinces.
The 100-foot bridge, located on the B-492 highway along the Kandy–Ragala Road, was inaugurated by India’s High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Santosh Jha, along with Deputy Minister of Transport Dr. Prasanna Gunasena and Deputy Minister of Education and Higher Education Madhura Senevirathne.
The newly opened bridge re-establishes a vital transport link that was severely damaged during Cyclone Ditwah, significantly improving connectivity for residents, commuters, and businesses in the affected areas.
It is also expected to facilitate the smooth movement of essential goods between the two provinces.
The bridge was constructed by the ADGPI unit of the Indian Army as part of India’s assistance to Sri Lanka’s post-disaster recovery and infrastructure rehabilitation efforts.
