Female Police Constables return lost wallet belonging to British tourist

Colombo, October 25. (Daily Mirror) - Two female Police Constables attached to the Prime Minister’s Security Division have been commended for their honesty after returning a lost wallet belonging to a foreign tourist.

According to Police, Constable Yamuna Dhammika Kumari Edirisinghe and Constable Samanmali from Police Division 12093 found the wallet on October 23rd along Thimbirigasyaya Road in Narahenpita.

The wallet was later identified as belonging to Sabrina Cameron, a British national. She was invited to the Prime Minister’s Security Division, where the wallet was formally handed over by the Division’s Director, Superintendent of Police Sumithra de Silva.

The wallet contained Rs. 6,000 in local currency, foreign currency equivalent to around Rs. 600,000 (including Euros, US Dollars, and British Pounds), as well as credit cards, an international driver’s licence, a passport, and other documents.

It is general courtesy to return any matter not belonging to you. Finders keepers is all crap ! Hats off and salute to the honorable police officers. On a different note, how many people will ‘keep’ or ‘return’ some trash strewn on a path? They certainly would chose to not keep it (out goes founders keepers theory) , neither would they return it (to the closest bin - its rightful owner) Something to ponder on - right minded citizens!

IGP: Please recognize the two female Police Constables. You have the responsibility to do so. Similarly punish the Police Constable who perform poorly, which it appears to me you are afraid to do so.
