Steps would be taken to ensure that no injustice was caused to the government employees who were contesting the Local Government election in the event of a postponement of the election, a minister said today.
State Minister Janaka Vakkumbura told Parliament that necessary amendments would be made to the Establishments Code so as no government employee contesting the LG polls would be inconvenienced if the LG polls could not be held at the right time.
Responding to a question raised by Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa with regard to the issues faced by the government employees who are contesting the election, he said a large number of employees in various state institutions attached to the Central Government and Provincial Councils were contesting the LG polls and said a detailed report would be submitted in Parliament shortly.(Ajith Siriwardana and Yohan Perera)

Government employees who win a political role/LG member role must be made to leave their government job immediately. An LG member is a politically driven person, and could not do government job in an unbiased way. They might try use corrupt means to get promotions even if they had politically elected role.

A politically involved Govt. servant will not able to do an honest job for the salary he is paid. If he is a pro Govt. he will say, "I am a Govt. supporter! so why should I work?" If he is pro opposition, he will say "I am against this Govt. So why should I work?" Do you think he will do an honest job for the salary he is paid? We see this all the time.

We don't know whether this man is making this proposal with an ulterior motive as he expects the LG Polls to be postponed further?
