England Women’s Cricket Team bats for girls’ empowerment in SL

Colombo, Oct. 13 (Daily Mirror) - The  England Women’s Cricket Team joined over 40 girls representing 12 districts for a training session at the Singhalese Sports Club ground, according to a statement from the British High Commission. 

The outreach programme organised by the British High Commission and Child Action Lanka showcased the transformative power of sport to empower girls and strengthen communities whilst highlighting the enduring ties between the UK and Sri Lanka, the High Commission said.

Speaking on the day’s programme, England player Danni Wyatt-Hodge, said:

"We're delighted to be in Sri Lanka not just to compete, but to connect with young people who share our passion for cricket". "Sport has the power to give every girl the confidence to dream big, and we hope today shows that those dreams are absolutely within reach."

The event also marked the launch of Child Action Lanka's 'She Plays' project, which will enable young girls from rural Sri Lanka to pursue their athletic dreams through access to training and support.
