Dr. Madurangi Ariyasinghe cleared by court to lead SLCEP

Colombo, March 31 (Daily Mirror) - The Commercial High Court of Colombo has delivered a landmark judgement clearing the way for Dr. Madurangi Ariyasinghe, Consultant Emergency Physician, to assume office as the first female President of the Sri Lanka College of Emergency Physicians (SLCEP).

The ruling was delivered by Commercial High Court Judge Chamath Madanayaka following nearly four months of legal proceedings over a dispute concerning the leadership of the College.

The legal battle arose after reported attempts by the current interim council leadership to remove Dr. Ariyasinghe from the President-Elect position, despite her having served in that role for nearly a year without an Annual General Meeting (AGM) being convened.

Dr. Ariyasinghe and several petitioners subsequently sought legal intervention, and the court ruled in their favour, directing that legal costs be borne by the respondents.

With the judgement, Dr. Ariyasinghe is now set to assume office as the 5th President of the Sri Lanka College of Emergency Physicians at the Annual General Meeting scheduled to be held on April 2 in Colombo.
