Doctors to strike from tomorrow

Colombo, March 30 (Daily Mirror) - The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) has announced that a 24-hour island-wide token strike will begin at 8.00 a.m. tomorrow (31), over what it alleges are politically motivated transfers carried out without proper inquiries.

Addressing a media briefing, GMOA Assistant Secretary Hansamal Weerasuriya said the association had identified a list of transfers it claims were made illegally, noting that such a list had not been prepared under previous administrations.

He said the token strike is being launched in protest against the transfers, adding that the action is aimed at highlighting what the GMOA described as unfair and politically influenced decisions in the transfer process.

These ungrateful docs should be taught good lesson by the patients themselves. They study off out hard-earned money and strike every issue thy have whilst safeguarding their private practice.

Majority know very well why such a list by previous administrations were not prepared. Transfers are allocated for various reasons and very doubtful being politically influenced. Guess those who are minting money on private practice are scratching their heads!!.

It is deeply unfortunate to see such a mentality among those who pursue medicine—a truly noble profession. If they believe the transfers are illegal, why not challenge them through proper legal channels? Why seek exceptional treatment at the expense of the very people they are sworn to serve?

sir to be honest educated Doctors.nearly every time it is only 24 hours strike.but still few doctors are available in wards The name" strike" there is no value for this 1 day.Better not strike.

Health Minister: I do respect the current administration; so please do treat professionals respectfully and not engage in transfers. Leave the transfers to Director of Health. Doctors: Strike is not the way to resolve such problems. Afterall tax payers, who pay your salary and perks, are your patients. Go for discussion for a win - win scenario please.

These doctors want everything easy and to their convenience. A bunch of selfish people. Think of the minor employers on the streets working in the heat without any benefits but they still do their jobs properly any demands
