Diplomatic missions express solidarity, support in relief and recovery initiatives: Foreign Ministry

Colombo, Nov. 28 (Daily Mirror)- Most diplomatic missions based in Colombo have expressed their solidarity and support for the Government of Sri Lanka during this challenging time, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism said.

The Ministry said missions conveyed their readiness to work closely with Sri Lankan authorities in facilitating humanitarian assistance and contributing to ongoing relief and recovery initiatives.

A diplomatic briefing was convened today by Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya at the Prime Minister’s office to brief Colombo-based Heads of Missions on the Government’s ongoing emergency flood relief operations and recovery efforts.

All Heads of Missions and posts of Sri Lanka’s diplomatic missions abroad joined the meeting virtually.

The Ministry said the briefing focused on ensuring the safety and security of the affected communities and outlined the immediate and aftermath recovery measures.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as instructed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism, has established an Emergency Response Unit for overall coordination effectively with Sri Lanka’s diplomatic missions abroad and Colombo-based diplomatic missions.
