Parliament, March 20 (Daily Mirror)- State Tourism Minister Diana Gamage today urged the Public Security Minister to take swift action to stop foreign tourists on visit visas engaging in business activities in Sri Lanka, claiming that it poses serious threats to local businessmen.
She told Parliament that the tourists on visit visas were engaged in business activities in Sri Lanka, specially in the Southern Province.
"This has created a great threat to the local people engaged in business activities especially, in the Southern Province. This matter should be addressed soon. We are not allowed to do any business or job in those countries on visit visa. We will be kicked out if we do so," she said.
The Minister said this issue should be resolved in a proper manner without creating issues with the countries concerned.
She urged Public Security Minister Tiran Alles, who is in charge of Immigration and Emigration, to look into the matter and take a decision regarding the matter as it could aggravate into a crisis in the near future.

“Without creating issues with the governments of other countries…”!! Ridiculous!! Tell us in what country a Sri Lankan person may work with a visitor visa!! A tourist visa should be issued only for a specific period and the visa holder should obtain adequate Sri Lankan currency in exchange for dollars at the airport. This is what they do in Myanmar.

Public Security minister seemingly afraid of pale skins causing locals to suffer Wednesday, 20 March 2024 07:11 PM
The Public Security Minister only stomps on locals. All the drug dealing pale skins he ignores. He probably gets behind the scene benefits from pretty pale skinned women from overseas, as well as financial benefit from the men. Or maybe because the Public Security Minister likes to needlessly cause locals to suffer, he sees the pales skins ruining local businessman business as good thing.

Tourism Minister is fast asleep on such indiscretions but makes unsolicited comments when it suits him only.

Authorities involved Must Be Apprehended Wednesday, 20 March 2024 10:30 PM
What were the authorities in the area doing all this time allowing them to set up their businesses. These businesses didn’t mushroom overnight and definitely took a few months. Someone or group of people must have got a cut from these foreigners to carry on with their activities.

This indicates that arriving tourists are not rich enough to meet their own expenses. On arriving, the number is counted to "total" but their spending power is not good enough. To attract RICH tourists, we must provide something UNIQUE for them.

I suggest we allow these tourists to do politics instead of business. We can appoint them as ministers via national list. After all, minister gamage is doing exactly the same.

Darling, what about the night life you promised? Are these businesses part of that?

I agree on this Diana. Heard rumours from many visitors to Mirissa that, many local establishments are registered under locals but Foreigners are using their names. Authorities should really look in to this immediately. Remember, "Whites Only" Party?
