With the increasing spread of the dengue virus, Chairman of the Public Health Inspectors' Union Upul Rohana said the dengue disease in the Gampaha district is getting out of control.
Addressing the media, he said there is a vast spreading of dengue across the country, and the situation is getting worse.
"It is observed that there is a vast spread of dengue in Colombo and Gampaha districts, and the daily count of positive cases reported from these areas is increasing.
"According to the statistics received, the dengue disease is getting out of control in the Gampaha District," he said.
Rohana charged that this is a direct result of the failure of the National Dengue Control Unit and provincial officials to analyze data and take appropriate action at the correct time and that they act without a proper plan.
Rohana requested the authorities to deploy officers and members of the public who have no technical knowledge and conducting dengue prevention programmes as the best opportunity to control the spread.
"Although our officers have offered their services voluntarily, there has been no request to assist in any dengue control programme," Rohana said. (Chaturanga Pradeep Samarawickrama)
