Dengue cases climb to 78,125

Colombo, July 22 (Daily Mirror) - The number of dengue cases reported in Sri Lanka so far this year has increased to 78,125, according to the latest data released by the National Dengue Control Unit (NDCU).

The NDCU said 1,097 new dengue cases were reported yesterday (21), while 162 Medical Officer of Health (MOH) divisions across the country continue to be identified as high-risk areas for dengue transmission.

Furthermore, a total of 8,590 cases were reported in May, followed by 21,535 cases in June. 

During the first 21 days of July alone, 22,749 dengue cases have already been recorded.

The NDCU also confirmed that 56 dengue-related deaths have been reported so far this year, with the case fatality rate standing at 0.07%.

The Western Province continues to account for the highest number of infections, recording 41,236 cases, representing 52.78% of the national total while the Southern Province has reported 11,950 cases (15.30%), while the Central Province has recorded 6,603 cases (8.45%).
