Danish woman arrested with Rs. 57 million worth of ’Kush’ at BIA

A 23-year-old Danish woman was arrested at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) on Tuesday night (16) while attempting to smuggle a consignment of the narcotic drug ‘Kush’ valued at Rs. 57 million.

The suspect was apprehended by officers of the Customs Narcotics Division as she tried to exit the airport through the Green Channel without making any declaration. Upon inspection, officials discovered 25 airtight packets of a product labeled “Snak” concealed in her suitcase. The packets contained a total of 5.7 kilograms of the drug.

Customs investigations revealed that the suspect had transported the consignment from Bangkok, Thailand, to Chennai, India, and had then arrived at BIA onboard an IndiGo flight at 7:05 p.m. on July 16. Authorities believe the suspect attempted to divert attention from customs officers during her arrival.

Following her arrest, the woman and the seized narcotics were handed over to the Airport Police Narcotics Bureau for further investigation.

Why, all u need is to keep a sample and follow court evidence acceptable procedures when destroying the rest. If such procedures are not in place, AG's office can draft and parliament can pass the legislation. Not as if these drugs will be returned to the carrier. Wonder if not in the interests of many to do so?

Kush is highly addictive and renders people into zombie- like states. As seen in Sierra Leone, it ruins populations. We cannot afford to follow this trajectory. So, convicted drug traffickers must serve a lengthy prison sentence without bail and a large fine. No leniency for foreigners.

Sadly ! Sri Lankans are slaves to foreigners ( white skins ) so probably she will be given a light sentence and the matter closed.

Thailand and Cambodia are starting points for drug trafficking. Seems to be a pattern of flying into another country before final destination of Sri Lanka. The enthusiasm for tourists have encouraged foreigners to think that Sri Lankan immigration will be a breeze. Good to know that they are being checked. However, many must be getting through. Better to spot check frequently.
