DMT resumes driver’s licence printing after shortage

Colombo, Nov. 16 (Daily Mirror) - The Department of Motor Traffic (DMT) has restarted the printing of driver’s licences after production was halted for weeks due to a shortage of printing cards.

Officials said printing work resumed last week, with the department now producing about 6,000 licences a day. The delay had resulted in a backlog of nearly 350,000 pending licences.

With new card stocks now available, the DMT says it is working to clear the accumulated applications as soon as possible.

The department also announced plans to issue new driver’s licences within 14 days of application.

Several district offices have already been linked to an online system to support faster processing, with others expected to be connected shortly.
