Colombo, Nov. 29 (Daily Mirror) - The Irrigation Department has issued a critical flood warning for several low-lying areas along the Mahaweli River following heavy rainfall in the river’s catchment areas.
According to the Irrigation Department’s Manampitiya water gauge, water levels are expected to rise to critical levels in divisions including Dimbulagala, Thamankaduwa, Welikanda, Lankapura, Medirigiriya, Seruwila, Kanthale, Kinniya, and Muttur.
Residents living close to the Mahaweli River in these areas are urged to remain vigilant and take necessary safety measures. Authorities strongly advise people in low-lying areas on both sides of the river to evacuate as soon as possible. Relevant Disaster Management authorities have requested that all necessary precautions be taken immediately.
