Colombo, June 25 (Daily Mirror) - Sri Lanka’s judicial system marked a historic milestone today as the Court of Appeal successfully accepted and heard its first-ever electronic filing (E-Filing) case, ushering in a new era of digital justice and paperless court administration.
This case, a writ application was filed electronically by Ramzi Bacha Associates, Attorneys-at-Law, representing Super Willshine (Private) Limited.
The matter was taken up before the President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Rohantha Abeysuriya and Justice Priyantha Fernando, in Court Room No. 301.
The application was supported by President’s Counsel Ali Sabry, who appeared on behalf of the petitioner and moved the Court for urgent relief.
Following submissions, the Court granted a 14-day interim stay order, providing immediate protection pending further proceedings.
Electronic filing is expected to reduce dependence on physical documentation, improve efficiency in court administration, save time for litigants and legal practitioners, enhance accessibility and transparency and promote environmentally sustainable (“green”) litigation.
The Supreme Court has also initiated an e-filing system, marking a significant milestone in its centuries-old history.
