Colombo, Feb. 25 (Daily Mirror) - The Court of Appeal today dismissed two writ petitions filed by Avant Garde Maritime Security Pvt. Ltd. (AGMS) challenging the decision to hand over certain armouries, belonging to the Sri Lanka Navy, back to the Navy.
The petitions were taken up before President of the Court of Appeal Justice Rohantha Abeysuriya and Justice Priyantha Fernando, who dismissed the two applications in favour of the Sri Lanka Navy.
The order was made pursuant to writ applications filed by the company and several of its employees seeking relief against a decision of the Defence Ministry to reclaim the armouries from which AGMS had been conducting its operations.
Dismissing the petitions in limine, the Court observed that there was no legal basis to proceed with the applications. Accordingly, the bench refused to issue notice on the respondents, effectively bringing the matter to a close at the preliminary stage.
